KUUKAUDEN TAITEILIJA, TAMMIKUU 2007:
Nithikul Nimkulrat
Artworks I create are basically intended to be the representation or metaphors of existential beings or things. I lay an emphasis on choice of materials used in every artwork, as I believe that each material possesses an own specific expressive quality, and that this quality of a particular material should relatively represents the existence of the artwork to which it belongs. Things or people surrounding us in everyday life seem to be too ordinary to us to pay special attention to. However, they are indispensable for our daily living. Some are even unconsciously embedded in our memories. Likewise, material is of central importance in creating an artwork, i.e. in transforming subjective ideas and thoughts to a tangible art form. It constructs not only the physical aspects of the artwork, but also the meaning of the work I, as the artist, intend to put forward. Ordinary stories combined with expressive materials contribute to the symbolic contents of my resulted artworks.z
Currently, I am taking on two roles‹artist and researcher‹simultaneously, as performing my postgraduate research at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The research deals with the question of the relationship between materials and artistic expression in the context of contemporary textile art.
