Teosteni keskeisenä tarkastelun kohteena ovat elämän odottamattomuus ja asetettujen ihanteiden ja todellisuuden ristiriidat. Millaista elämämme odotetaan olevan ja mitkä ovat mahdollisuudet niillä, jotka eivät täytä yhteisön asettamia normeja? Miten käy kun hallinta pettää?
Teosteni pohjana käytän tekstiilejä, joilla on historia. Elämää nähneeseen tekstiilipintaan yhdistän digitaalisesti käsiteltyä valokuvaa ja maalausta ja ompelen ja kirjon. Teoksissa yhtyvät nykyteknologia ja perinteinen, hidas käsityötapa, kova ja pehmeä. Elämän eri puolet. Käytetyt kodintekstiilit yhdistyvät lämpöön, kehoon ja arkielämään. Vanhat täkit ja sängynpeitot antavat suojan niille asetetuille ihmishahmoille. Kirpputoreilta ja vinteiltä löydetyt kappaleet kertovat mielikuvitusta kiehtovaa tarinaansa eletystä, purkautuvasta elämästä.
Uusin teoskokoelma sijoittuu sirkuksen freak-show -maailman viitekehykseen. Sirkuksen illusorinen maailma symboloi nykypäivän viritettyä ja hallittua hype(r)elämää, pintakiiltoa ja kuvitelmaa mahdollisuudesta täysin hallita elämää.
Osa sirkuskokoelman teoksista on kaksiosaisia - luonnollisen kokoinen digitaalisesti käsitelty siirtovalokuva itämaisella matolla ja yksityiskohta kanavatyönä toteutettuna tauluna. Itämainen matto kuvastaa sirkuksen arkirealismin ylittävää eksotiikkaa, ja kitschahtavaa ilmettä. Kanavatyönä tehdyistä yksityiskohtaosista teen lisäksi rajatun, numeroidun sarjan tee-se-itse- tarvikepaketteja käsinmaalattuine kankaineen ja lankavalikoimineen, joita myyn näyttelystä käsityökauppojen tapaan. Tee-se-itse- kanavataulujen tavoitteena on kommentoida käsityöperinnettä sekä kyseenalaistaa taiteilija teoksen ainoana tekijänä ja pohtia taideteoksen arvoa, jos se onkin valmistettu itse perinteisellä yleisesti taidetulla käsityötekniikalla.

The focus of my works is in the unforeseen process of life and the contrast between reality and the commonly accepted ideals in life. What do we (or others) expect our life to be and what are the chances of those who do not meet the norms? What happens when we lose control?
I make my works out of found material, textiles with a history. I transfer digitally manipulated photograph on the worn-out surface, stitch and embroider. My works combine contemporary technology with traditional slow handicraft, hard and soft. Both sides of life. The second hand domestic textiles imply to warmth, body and everyday life. The old quilts and blankets give protection to the human figures printed on them. The pieces found from flea markets and attics tell their stories of lived life.
The narrative of my most recent works is placed in a context of a circus show. The works deal with the banal ideals of a glorious life of success and celebrity, which is typical in popular culture. I question contemporary meritocracy and the idea of a life that should be fully in control and worked up into anything one wishes. I'm using an oriental carpet as the background material to emphasize the exotic above-the-everyday-realism quality of a circus.
Some of the circus works are accompanied with a needlework detail of the photograph on the carpet. The kitschy and overwhelmingly romantic character of commercial needlepoint works articulate with the visual appearance of a traditional circus. I also make and sell a limited edition of do-it yourself kits of these needlepoint pieces to comment the tradition of (commercial) handicraft and to raise questions about the originality and author of an artwork.
